James and Richard headed into the Yorkshire Dales for the second of three practice walks ahead of the Yorkshire 3Peaks Challenge raising money for #ThisIsLuke.
We arrived into Arncliffe having gotten through the ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ film set in the centre of the village, parked up and proceeded along the bottom of the valley for 4 miles in muggy heat. At Litton Hall we then turned up the side of the valley, conversation dwindled the steeper it became and pushed ourselves to the top at a respectable pace. Once at the summit on Firth Fell, drizzle very quickly turned into a downpour- it certainly took the edge off the heat!
We descended the first half of the walk towards Buckden then southeast toward the village of Starbotton, where we then made the final ascent through Fosse Wood onto Old Cote Moor, giving spectacular views over the Littondale Valley. A steep descent back into the Arncliffe then to the Old Hall in at Threshfield for a well-deserved pint whilst we dried out!
In total, we covered 10.9 miles, with an elevation gain of 2,325ft in 3 hours and 52 minutes. This is half the distance, and half the climbing we will do on the day.
One more training walk to go, then we’re onto the main event.
If you could spare us a few quid at the link below to sponsor the team, it will make all the difference to a young man’s future.
